What are veneers?

Veneers are delicate shells, which are usually made from porcelain. They are shaped to fit over your natural teeth to create a brand new smile. Veneers are bonded to the surface of the teeth and they can achieve amazing transformations in just a couple of weeks. Veneers can be used to restore and reshape individual teeth or to create an entirely new aesthetic based on the individual patient’s needs.

Who can benefit from veneers?

Veneers are an effective cosmetic treatment, and they provide an incredible solution for those who want to feel more confident and attractive when their smile is on show. It’s rare to have naturally flawless teeth, and if you’re self-conscious about your smile, veneers could be the answer you’ve been searching for. Veneers address a host of common cosmetic flaws, and they provide results quickly with minimal hassle. In most cases, veneer treatment can be completed within 2-3 weeks. It’s worth noting that veneers only alter the look of the smile. If you have gaps in your smile, for example, and you’re weighing up the pros and cons of veneers and braces, the only way to actually move the teeth is to wear braces. Our dentists can help you decide which treatment option is best for you.

What does the treatment process involve?

The first stage of treatment is the consultation. When you come to Align & Smile, our dentists will talk to you about the treatment options, explain what the process entails and answer any questions you have. They will also examine your mouth to check that you’re a suitable candidate for treatment, and they will discuss timeframes and costs with you. If you want to go ahead and have treatment, your dentist will schedule another appointment to prepare your teeth and create impressions of your smile. Preparation is required to make space for the new veneers and involves removing a very thin layer of the surface enamel. The impressions of your teeth will be sued to create your bespoke veneers. When your veneers are ready, they can be fitted and secured in place. The dentist will then advise you how to look after your veneers and then you’ll be free to flash that brand new smile!
