Dentures are sets of prosthetic teeth, which can be used to replace a small number or a full arch of missing teeth. Partial dentures are designed to blend in with the natural teeth to create a stunning aesthetic, while full or complete dentures replace the entire arch.
Dentures are usually held in place by the natural suction power of the gums, but some people prefer to enhance security and stability using denture adhesive and fixatives. It is also possible to anchor dentures using dental implants.
Dentures are custom-made for the individual patient, and they are created based on moulds of the gums to ensure a perfect fit. Dentures last a long time, but they’re not a permanent solution. The contours of your mouth change constantly, and this means that eventually, your denture won’t fit properly. To prevent soreness and irritation, we recommend coming to see us on a regular basis and replacing your dentures once you start to feel like they’re not completely comfortable.

FAQs
When you first have dentures fitted, you may find it helpful to stick to soft foods, but once you’re used to your new dentures, you shouldn’t have to make any changes to your normal diet.
It’s important to take good care of your dentures by cleaning them on a regular basis and ensuring you keep them in a safe place when you’re not wearing them. We recommend using a soft brush to clean your dentures, and avoiding very hot water.
Dentures are custom-made according to the unique shape of your gums, so you should find that they feel comfortable and that they stay firmly in place. If your dentures do start to feel less secure, call the practice and book an appointment. Over time, your mouth changes shape and you may need to adjust or replace your dentures.
