If you’re working your way back to having a complete smile after losing one or more of your teeth, then you may have been researching replacement teeth options. Crowns, dentures and bridges are all viable treatment options, but there is another way that offers arguably the next best thing to having your natural teeth again. At Align & Smile, our dentist in Canary Wharf may recommend dental implants to you. Dental implants are screws that are attached to the jawbone and enable replacement teeth to be fixed to them and they shouldn’t move no matter what you eat or how much you talk! While this may sound too good to be true, we promise that it’s just science. Titanium is the metal used for the screws and this bonds well with the body’s tissues. As the tissue heals around the screws, it leaves them firmly fixed into place just like the roots of your teeth are!
Does having dental implants require major surgery?
You may be relieved to learn that having dental implants does not involve a general anaesthetic. You will have local anaesthetic from your dentist in Canary Wharf here at Align & Smile, instead. You will need to have a couple of appointments to have the dental implants fitted, because the first will involve having the screws inserted into the jawbone. You will then have temporary dental implants attached, while the tissues heal around the screws. After this, you can then return to see us and get your permanent replacement teeth attached, and ta-daaaa! You will have your completed, beautiful smile, ready to go!
How long would my dental implants last for?
The great thing about dental implants is that they are very easy to maintain. All you will need to do is brush and floss normally and regularly. You should also ensure that you come and see us for your routine checkups. If you do this, however, you could have a fantastic smile for years to come – they could even last you a lifetime.
Will anybody be able to tell I have dental implants?
Other people shouldn’t realise that you have got dental implants in your mouth. The screws won’t be visible, just your replacement teeth. Replacement teeth can be made to complement any of your remaining natural teeth you may have, and they will also complement each other. We will be able to choose the size, shape and colour of your replacement teeth, so there’s no need to worry! Your teeth will look fabulous, just like you!
