FAQs about Invisalign answered by our dentist

When it comes to correcting mild to moderate cases of dental misalignment, many adult patients are surprised to learn that there is a way they can straighten their teeth without needing to resort to traditional, fitted metal braces.

But, thanks to pressure from adult patients, many dental surgeries and orthodontic teams are now able to offer treatment in the form of invisible aligners, with Invisalign being the most popular option.

When you come to see our team at Align and Smile, our dentist in Canary Wharf will assess your suitability for Invisalign, and will guide you through the process of daily wear, and will also be on hand if you experience any issues.

So, with that in mind, what are some of the questions that our dentist in Canary Wharf receives from patients who want to use Invisalign?

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is a type of clear orthodontic aligner that is custom-made for each patient. The aligners are made of clear, medical-grade plastic that is moulded to fit over your teeth. The aligners gently and gradually shift the teeth into the desired position over time. You will be given a series of aligners, each representing a different stage of the treatment. You need to wear each aligner for about 2 weeks before switching to the next one in the series. The aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours a day, only taking them out to eat, brush, and floss. Our dentist in Canary Wharf manages Invisalign treatment, and we will monitor the progress of the treatment and make any necessary adjustments.

How long does treatment with Invisalign take?

The length of treatment with Invisalign can vary depending on the individual case and the severity of the misalignment. Simple cases may take as little as 6 months, while more complex cases can take up to 2 years. You will have a consultation with our dental team, who will assess your teeth and create a customised treatment plan that will include an estimated duration of the treatment. So, you will have an idea going in of how long you will be wearing the aligners.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Invisalign cost varies depending on how long the aligners are worn, how often you need to see our team and if any replacement aligners are needed.

We can offer to finance suitable patients, so call us today for more information if this is something you are interested in.

Are there any food restrictions with Invisalign?

Not really, your diet can stay the same.

The aligners should be removed when eating, but remnants must be cleaned off teeth before replacing. Food and drinks that can stain, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and berries, should also be limited when you are using Invisalign, as they can stain the aligners.

Can Invisalign fix severe misalignment?

Severe misalignment cases, which may include major crowding, crossbite, overbite, and underbite, are considered more complex cases and may require treatment such as the use of dental braces. So, in a word, no, Invisalign is not suitable for fixing severe cases.
